Part-Exchange Terms

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you part-exchange an item with us — that is, when you put an item of your own towards the purchase of a piece from us. They should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions of Sale.

Trove is a trading name of Newmans of Rothwell Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17164590, whose registered office is at 10 Market Hill, Rothwell, Kettering, NN14 6EP (“we”, “us”, “our”).

You can contact us by email at hello@trovestore.co.uk or by post at the registered office address above.

2. How part-exchange works

If you see a piece you would like to buy, you can offer an item of your own — such as a watch, jewellery or coins — in part-exchange towards it. You send or bring us the item, we assess and value it, and we offer you a value for it. The difference between the price of the piece you want and the value we offer for your item is the amount you pay us — the “cost to change”. If the value of your item is higher than the piece you want, we will agree with you how any balance is paid.

3. Valuations are not binding until agreed

Any indication of value we give before seeing your item is only an estimate. Our valuation becomes firm only once we have examined the actual item and confirmed it with you. It is based on our assessment of the item — which may include its weight, metal content, condition and authenticity — and the market at that time. We may decline to accept any item in part-exchange, and we do not have to give a reason.

4. Your item — ownership and condition

By offering an item in part-exchange, you confirm that you are the legal owner of it (or are authorised to sell it), that it is not stolen, and that you know of no reason why you cannot lawfully sell it. You also confirm that any description you give us of the item is accurate. If, on inspection, the item is not as you described, we may revise or withdraw our valuation.

5. Proof of identity and age

You must be aged 18 or over to part-exchange an item with us. Because we are acquiring an item from you, we may need to verify your identity and age and may ask for photographic identification and proof of address, in the same way as when we buy items from the public. We handle this information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

6. Money-laundering checks

As a business that acquires high-value goods, we may be required to carry out customer due-diligence checks and keep records under the Money Laundering Regulations, and to report certain transactions. We may refuse or delay a part-exchange where we are required to do so, or where we have concerns.

7. Sending your item to us

If you send your item to us by post, please contact us first for instructions. Items sent by post are your responsibility until they reach us, and we recommend a secure, insured and tracked service. Items can also be sent in person to our office premises, please contact us to arrange a suitable time.

8. How the part-exchange is completed

The part-exchange, and the purchase it is put towards, are completed once we have agreed the value of your item and the cost to change, you have provided any required identification, we have received your item, and you have paid the cost to change. Ownership of your item passes to us at that point, and ownership of the piece you are buying passes to you once we have received the cost to change in full.

9. If you change your mind about the purchase

If you are a consumer and you cancel the purchase under your 14-day right to change your mind (see our Terms & Conditions of Sale and our Returns, Refunds & Cancellations policy), we will refund the cost to change you paid. Where possible we will return the item you traded in; however, because our stock is often sold quickly and traded-in items may be resold or altered, we may not be able to return your original item. In that case, we will refund you the value we agreed for it instead. We will explain exactly how this works in your particular case — please contact us as soon as possible.

10. Our responsibility

We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

11. Complaints, data protection and governing law

If you have a complaint, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve it. We handle your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales; if you are a consumer, you may also be entitled to bring proceedings where you live.
